About Me

It’s funny how life takes many twists and turns – but you usually end up right where you should be. Whether you believe that to be fate, chance or completely of your own making, it is important to embrace new challenges and do something that makes you happy.

Helping others to celebrate their lives or relationships

On a personal level, I love consuming large quantities of cheese, spiced rum and angel cake (those three pretty layers get me every time!). I am a mama of two who are teaching me to look at life in new ways.

Travelling, music and festivals have all influenced my life in so many ways. Oh, and I’m a massive fan of The Big Bang Theory!

I have been extraordinarily lucky to have enjoyed a full and varied life so far. Working as a journalist for ten years afforded me the honour and privilege of interviewing hundreds of people, many who had experienced tragedy and those who were elated following heroic achievements.

Realising my strengths, and indeed passion, lay in building relationships, listening and helping others, I swapped journalism for a career in teaching and pastoral care in Further and Higher Education.

What led me to become a celebrant?

I came to this exciting decision after choosing to have a celebrant conduct the ceremony for my own wedding to my now-husband Ian. Working with her, we constructed the most beautiful, funny and memorable ceremony we could have wished for.

The wonderful comments we received from our friends and family, won over by the personal nature of our ceremony, resonated with me and I couldn’t stop thinking about helping others to celebrate their lives or relationships. I am now very proud to also be a trainer and mentor for The Academy of Modern Celebrancy.

My ceremonies are personal and inclusive: they can be intimate, reflective, hilarious, moving and special occasions, which are based on your story and your ideas about love and commitment. It can be completely non-religious, have elements of faith or rituals such as a handfasting or tree planting.

Being a celebrant is a hugely important part of my life – I get to work creatively with you to craft a day that is truly about you and for you. I can adapt to your needs and wishes whilst making suggestions if required. More humour-filled than lovey-dovey hearts and flowers, I will tell your story with passion, with expression and with joy.

Happy customers

Warm and friendly.

"Helen was exactly the sort of celebrant we were after, warm and friendly with a great sense of humour."

Andrew & Kate, The Chimney House

Incredible Ceremony

"Helen! I still can't get over how incredible our ceremony was! Our family and friends have all said it was the best wedding they had ever seen! You were and are wonderful! We are thankful we chose you as our celebrant. Thank you for everything."

Isabelle & Sam, Sheffield Manor Lodge

"What a great ceremony it was"

We just wanted to say a massive THANK YOU for doing our ceremony. We had so many people coming up to us saying what a great ceremony it was and that was largely down to you and the way you conducted it.

Helen & Nick, Garden Wedding, Northamptonshire

You created magic that day

"Helen, thanks for rolling with the chaos and not sitting at the side keeping dry waiting for someone else to sort things out when the extreme rain and wind even ruined our back up plan. You created magic that day. My memory of you running from one tent to another, hair flowing in the wind, will always make me chuckle!"

Bex & Rupert, Family Farm, South Yorkshire

"Our day was perfect."

Helen took the time to visit us in our home and meet with Isla to make sure she was completely relaxed before her 'big day', taking the time to listen to our anecdotes, memories and pass a tissue when I cried (and I did that a few times!). The result was a perfect..... I was going to say 'script' but it was so much more than that. It was a story about the journey of our lives together as a family and how both our daughters have made that so wonderfully complete. It was a celebration of our wonderful, constantly hungry, whirlwind of a fabulous daughter!

Lindsay, Naming Ceremony, Sheffield

Everything we'd hoped and more.

"We just wanted to say an enormous THANK YOU, from the bottom of our hearts. Our ceremony was everything we'd hoped and more. It means a lot that you came all the way down from Yorkshire! Everyone said how fabulous you were. The whole day was perfect and that was kicked off with your wonderful words."
